"Kathy Reichs returns with her nineteenth riveting novel featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan"
Synopsis
Number One New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs returns with her nineteenth riveting novel featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, who must use all her tradecraft to discover the identity of a faceless corpse, its connection to a decade-old missing child case, and why the dead man had her phone number.
It’s sweltering in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Temperance Brennan, still recovering from neurosurgery following an aneurysm, is battling nightmares, migraines, and what she thinks might be hallucinations when she receives a series of mysterious text messages, each containing a new picture of a corpse that is missing its face and hands.
Immediately, she’s anxious to know who the dead man is, and why the images were sent to her.
An identified corpse soon turns up, only partly answering her questions. To win answers to the others, including the man’s identity, she must go rogue.
With help from a number of law enforcement associates including her Montreal beau Andrew Ryan and the always-ready-with-a-smart-quip, ex-homicide investigator Skinny Slidell, and utilizing new cutting-edge forensic methods, Tempe draws closer to the astonishing truth.
But the more she uncovers, the darker and more twisted the picture becomes ...
My Review
Firstly let me say how absolutely honoured I am to be taking part in this Blog Tour, Kathy Reichs is an absolute idol of mine, I have been loving this series for over 21 years, I was only around 18 when I started out with the second book of the series "Dealth Du Jour", which lead me back to the first and my obsession grew! year on year the Temperance Brennan stories are what I looked forward to most.
I loved the TV series to though for those who may not know the TV series and the Books are very different. But with 12 seasons and wonderful characters its still one not to miss and I have been enjoying it all over again with my boys via amazon prime.
Here we are with Book 19! Wow I feel like been waiting a long time for this book, and even though I had the Tory collections and the series to re-watch the years have been long waiting for my favourite author to delve back in to Tempe's life again.
I squealed when it landed on my door mat and I am thrilled to say it was everything I hoped for and more, No #19 holds its own and seamlessly fits in to this wonderful series.
Fresh of the back of her surgery and still recovering Temperance is dealing with a lots of personal issues around her recovery and new professional conflicts around working with her new boss, there is a personal history there and both are ice cold with each other.
While she is still contacted to work between Montreal and Charlotte she has not been asked to consult much, not having work to focus her frustrations with her recovery is difficult. She thinks she is seeing things? convinced a mysterious man was on her property, suffering headaches and confusion she does not even trust herself.
So it is not surprising that when she receives pictures of a corpse without head or limbs anonymously she immediately dives head first into the case as usual with little to no regard for her safety even when told to stay away from the case much to the annoyance of her new boss Tempe takes off on her own determined to find answers.
Working again with Slidell, we follow Temperance as she is drawn further in to this mystery, conspiracies, lies, missing children and cryptic clues and amazing anthropological detail, mean this story is not only thrilling but grabs you by the collar pulling you deeper and deeper with chapters that make you want to read just that little bit more.
In true Temperance fashion she is carried away with the case and we are carried away with her I really really enjoyed this book, I love the characters, the settings and the feeling that I am coming back to family and a world I enjoy been in.
I would recommend this book to all that would enjoy a more serious and complex crime thriller/mystery this series is not for the faint heart and all the cases are complex and thrilling clever if your wanting a read to really get your mind thinking then look no further.
To all Kathy Reichs or Temperance Brennan fans have no fear this book is a belter! To those about to give this series a go for the first time, do and enjoy this one but think of starting at the beginning there are now 19 and you won't regret a second of reading any of them.
As always this book was a wonderful read and a great addition to the series my only down side is I know I will have a wait until the next!
5 stars all the way!!
