"A sparkling new voice in crime fiction and a delicious cast of characters with dazzling plotting"
Synopsis
Set in London in 1968, A CURTAIN TWITCHER’S BOOK OF MURDER follows the lives of the inhabitants of a suburban London street. But this is no ordinary road.
“Ask anyone on Atbara Avenue how well they know their neighbours, and they’ll answer ‘well’. After all, they see each other across the vast distance afforded by close proximity, and that is probably for the best...”.
For the best, because Atbara Avenue is a street where, all too often, murder feels like the solution.
With a delicious cast of characters, dazzling plotting, and an utterly unique voice, Gay Marris’ first book is remarkably accomplished. If you’ve been longing for a fresh and compelling new voice in the world of crime fiction, your wait is over.
My Review
I absolutely adore a cozy murder mystery, so when I settled in to read this book, I was expecting a typical story. But boy, was I wrong!
This book is not just one tale, but many!
We join this read in the late 1960's on a street filled with eccentric characters, each one brimming with intrigue and secrets.
With a mix of brash humor and dark twists, the author leads us down Atbara Street, introducing us to its residents one chapter at a time.
What initially feels like a collection of short stories soon reveals itself to be a web of interconnected lives. It's like Eastenders meets Agatha Christie!
From family drama to broken relationships, sibling rivalries, love, and loss, we become the ultimate fly on the wall onlooker as all the streets secrets unfold!
This debut novel is absolutely brilliant, and I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next. I only hope it continues in this unique and captivating writing style!
