Synopsis

BITTER FLOWERS -

GUNNAR STAALESEN -

Translated by Don Bartlett

Fresh from rehab, PI Varg Veum faces his most complex investigation yet, when a man is found drowned, a young woman disappears, and the case of a missing child is revived. T

The classic Nordic Noir series continues… PI Varg Veum has returned to duty following a stint in rehab, but his new composure and resolution are soon threatened when three complex crimes land on his desk.

A man is found dead in an elite swimming pool. A young woman has gone missing. Most chillingly, Veum is asked to investigate the ‘Camilla Case’: an eight-year-old cold case involving the disappearance of a little girl, who was never found.

As the threads of these three apparently unrelated cases come together, against the backdrop of a series of shocking environmental crimes, Veum faces the most challenging, traumatic investigation of his career.

My Review

Its great to be back in the nordic noir world of this wonderful and gritty Varg Veum series.

Each of these reads published by Orenda Books and superbly translated have fast become by favourite crime series and while there are connections between cases each read can be read a standalone so no reason not to get stuck in!

In this read we join Veum fresh out of rehab. He's holding up well and taking things slow so when a easy job of house sitting is offered Vegum is ready to relax some more.

but this is Nordic Noir and easy things are just not up Veums street and on a tour of the house with his friend and physiotherapist Lisbeth, a body is found in the pool and Lisbeth disappears.

If your not already hooked your about to be! It becomes apparent that this current body might be linked to the disappearance of a little girl eight years before the almost infamous "Camilla Case".

As these cases intertwine we are taking and a thrilling journey with the truth only ever feeling like it was a page away! I read at pace to fulfil my desire to know just what the hell was going on!

Bitter Flowers is everything I have come to expect from the fantastic master of Nordic Noir that this author is. from the writing style with the complex and twisty almost puzzle like case's, to the Passion that Veum feels for his work and his dead pan humour, I adore this character so much an this series, I cannot wait for more!
