My Review

This book was an absolute joy! I read this to my youngest son and as the littlest "Mini Twist Reviewer" he takes his book reading and reviewing role very seriously, and he could not get enough of this story, we have read it again and again.

The writing really bounced along and was interesting and felt so different from the more common rhymes and rhyming type books I have read to my son recently.

The whole moral of the story was really good and very relevant, Brad is sad due to actions and events by his parent's, but did they really make him sad? when Brad acts in the same way to his lovely dog Plaid, he notices that Plaid is not sad? this turns into a lovely life lesson for Brad.

Children's emotional and social well being is so important and while as parents we all we can to support them, at times they really do need to take action themselves and realise as Brad did that his own happiness was in his own hands.

The illustration's were lovely bright yet textured which is a style I have always liked in picture books, the drawings also had a lot of extra little details my son liked to see what the ginger cat was up to on each page! he also really liked plaid and said he seemed very soft and squishy!

This was an absolutely lovely read for me and my son, and it sparked quite a few conversations about feelings especially sadness and anger. I loved the line never disallow my inner wow, this is something I am going to not only quote all the time now! but really take heart of into my own life!
