My Review
Cut to The Bone,is the third novel in the DI Meg Dalton series, I have had the pleasure of reading the previous "Dead Man's Daughter" so I knew I was in for treat again!
When social media star and up and coming internet celebrity Violet Armstrong goes suddenly missing, her place of work the local abattoir is searched for clues.
When hair and clothing are found in the pig pen you sence this is not going to end well, but what is really happening and who is at fault?
The tensions are already rising and the media storm is taking hold, Violet was an online and vocal campainer of eating meat, the vegitarians and vegans arch nemises, she angered so many animal rights groups and she almost reveled in her up and coming fame, is this revenge? has some thing bad really happend?
As DI Meg Dalton takes on the case she faces extreme backlash and trolling online with been a vegetarian herself, many question her loyalty and commintment to solving this mystery.
In the mist of this the read take a strange turn into almost folk law, the workers and local community put paid in the the urban tale of the "pale child" the rumour been if you saw ‘the pale child’ and it looked at you, then you would die.
there are so many secrets in this community everyone seems connected and as the lies come forward so does motive.
Add to this all that Meg is dealing with in her own life, family worries and personal isues within her team you can almost feel everything bubbling over.
The read floats between the present and the past and in the end brings everything together in a brilliant twisty climax.
I dont think there is enough brain bleach out there to remove what I now know about pigs and there ablity to eat anything! graffic and chilling just the suggestion was enough for it to stick with me!
I found the main story line in the hunt for the missing girl Voliet, thrilling and the added almost supernatual element of the pale child was a really original take on the effect of folklaw on a community, Meg is as always such a great character relatable and yet still unsure of herself.
Another captivating, original and Twisy read from this author, I cannot wait for the next in the series
Author Bio
Roz Watkins is the author of the DI Meg Dalton crime series, which is set in The Peak District where Roz lives with her partner and a menagerie of demanding animals.
Her first book, The Devil's Dice, was shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger Award, was the Times crime book of the month, and has been optioned for TV. Her second book, Dead Man's Daughter was also a Times top pick.
Roz studied engineering at Cambridge University, before training in patent law. She was a partner in a firm of patent attorneys in Derby, but this has absolutely nothing to do with there being a dead one in her first novel.
In her spare time, Roz likes to walk in the Peak District, scouting out murder locations.
