"A missing man. A desperate friend. A circle of deceit...

Synopsis

A missing man. A desperate friend. A circle of deceit.

Would you refuse your friend’s desperate plea for help?

When Eva’s close friend Marc disappears, his wife Sasha is distraught, and Eva is baffled. Sasha and Marc were happy, the perfect couple... or so everybody thought.

Sasha begs Eva to help her find Marc. But he has appeared at the police station where Eva works and has made a statement. It’s on record – when his family report him missing, Marc doesn’t want to be found.

As each day passes, the mystery deepens. What was Marc up to? What made him do the things he did in the months leading up to his disappearance? Things so out of character, Eva struggles to tell Sasha about them…

and then a disturbing discovery changes everything.

A psychological thriller full of twists and turns.

My Review

In August 2020 I declared AJ Campbell's debut novel one of my reads of the year ( see that review below) and here I am doing it again!

My read of 2021 "Don't Come Looking" an outstanding second novel in the Eva Barnes series! and I cannot see anything matching this thriller with a twist that just knocks you off your feet at all this year!

In this read we are thrown back in to Eva's life 8 years on from the events in "Leave Well Alone" when her friend Sasha turns to Eva in a time of crisis, her Husband is missing and she needs Eva's help.

But Eva saw Marc that morning, attending her station to report that if he is reported missing, he is not. He has chosen to leave his life and family and does not want to be found.

Torn between her career and the ties of friendship Eva of course is getting to close and in to deep.

But as the story unfolds and the secrets begin to spill the real question is do we ever real know a person?, family? friend? neighbour? can you every truly trust anyone?

Absolutely gripping! This book, this story it just grabbed me from the get go! Mostly as I could not believe a man would walk away from his family like that!

From the outset the tension is building you want to know why? you need the reason! but as the reads complexly woven secrets unfurl the outcome is anything other than what you were thinking and the twist and the pay off better than anything you were expecting!

This is the book, the story that is begging for a movie/tv series deal, it all played out like a film while reading in my head and it is a travesty if the the rights to this and the Eva Barnes series as a whole are not snapped up immediately! when your curled up in a few years with some popcorn and are watching this on Netflix, Sky or Terrestrial remember I warned you to have the popcorn ready first!

AJ Campbell has secured herself as a class act and a master storyteller in the Psychological thrillers genre, you do not need to have read the debut " Leave Well Alone" before reading "Don't Come Looking but I don't know why you would deny yourself the pleasure!

I cannot wait for more from this author and for more from this series! A firm favourite and an automatic buy! Grab this book and get comfy for a thrilling read, with a kicker of a twist! 5 stars ( and I wish I could give it more!) All the way!!

Author Bio

Until the birth of her twins in 2005, which radically changed her life, AJ was an accountant for several investment banks in London.

One of her twins was born with severe disabilities, as a result of which she had to give up work to care for him. It was during this incredibly challenging (and rewarding) time that AJ began to draw on her love of the written word, partly for day-to-day inspiration and partly for her own mental health.

She started writing her debut novel, Leave Well Alone, and then enrolled in several creative writing courses with the Faber Academy where she progressed with her writing career.

AJ lives on the Essex / Hertfordshire border with her husband and three sons and splits her time between caring for her son and family and writing.
