"nightmares don’t always end when you wake up. "
Synopsis
On Halloween night thirteen year old Ruby disappears in the company of a masked figure.
She is never seen again.
The only witness is Nell Montague who is just seven years old.
Twenty three years later, Nell is trapped in an abusive relationship and still suffering from vivid nightmares of what she saw.
When tragedy strikes she escapes and attempts to put her past behind her. Then thirteen year old Emily disappears.
Haunted by increasingly disturbing visions and helped by a reluctant psychic, Nell must unravel the mystery of what really happened that night because to save Emily she must first find Ruby.
But to do so she will question everything she thought she knew about her own childhood and soon discovers that nightmares don’t always end when you wake up.
My Review
I don't think there could be a more fitting book for the month of October!
If your looking for a creepy Halloween read then this is it!
From the creepy yet enthrawling blurb, to the haunting book cover design, from the outset I could not wait to get stuck in to this read!
This book just as I hoped grabbed me from the start and did not let go!
A tale of involving a missing child is a plot arc that would hook anyone in the thriller/horror genre, it is just a concept already filled with horror and tension and the way this story was written with a twist on the paranormal it was made so terrifyingly dark yet engaging it made a fantastic read!
This is a clever story of 2 parts of the same persons life, where each is entwined with the other and offers clues to what is to happen.
Nell, fresh out of a really violent relationship (trigger warning!) still suffering after witnessing a crime as a child she is trying to move forward but ends up caught in new missing persons case in the present.
With haunting visions Nell discovers to save someone now she must also solve the case from her past.
I could not put this book down, it's short chapters really ebbed up the pace and in turn the tension surrounding this read, there were twists and turns galore! I was left a bit breathless in parts!
I am so happy this is marketed as the first in the "Nell Montague series" as it means I have more to look forward to not only from the author but also from this great character and I for one cannot wait!
