"The missing people aren't in danger. They're the dangerous ones...."

Synopsis

Four strangers are missing.

Left at their last-known locations are birthday cards that read:

YOUR GIFT IS THE GAME DARE TO PLAY?

The police aren’t worried – it’s just a game.

But the families are frantic, and psychologist and private detective Dr Augusta Bloom is persuaded to investigate.

As she delves into the lives of the missing people, she finds something that binds them all. And that something makes them very dangerous indeed.

As more disappearances are reported and new birthday cards uncovered, Dr Bloom races to unravel the mystery and find the puppeteer. But is she playing into their hands?

An addictive debut thriller with an ingenious hook that turns the missing person plot on its head – what if the missing people are the dangerous ones?

My Review

Thrilled to be closing out the Blog Tour for this amazing read!

Ok! I declare it! this is my book of the year so far!

From the moment I opened this in my book mail I was just drawn to it, I HAD to read it the blurb the cover i was already intrigued and I just had to get reading, happy to report i was not disappointed!

There are so many crime and thriller books around with psychopaths as the core subject and admittedly I love reading them but not for the gore or the crime but I enjoy the Psychological nature the why, the what makes people tick and Gone for me turned my whole thought process on its head.

People are missing and Dr Augusta Bloom and her colleague Marcus both are pulled on to the case due to Marcus's family connection with the daughter of one of the missing women.

All the missing people received the same card and a dare on there birthday then they disappeared, some left university, another left his heavily pregnant girlfriend.

as they investigate further, Its discovered that all these people had the same traits, and could be deemed psychopaths.

We are also early on we are also introduced to a young girl called Seraphine who has attacked a teacher at her school. Augusta is also asked to try and figure out Seraphine's involvement and question if there's more to her than she's letting on.

both these story lines while seemingly separate twist and turn towards an explosive ending that left me almost holding my breath in parts!! I try to remain spoiler free in my blog but the ending, THE ENDING!! WOW what a twist and I was questioning that was Augusta one too? even right till the last page i am like ????

I loved the main characters so much and i really hope that the author continues them in a series!

This book make you question your own traits and personality importantly leaves you understanding due to the authors explanations through Augusta that psychopaths are not all serial killers and crazy!

They could be your neighbour, the women who runs the local shop, the man on the bus, your boss. many are just getting though life dealing with what the psychopathic traits are for them, lack of emotion, no empathy, lack of social awareness.

It's so cleverly written and I just love how the author has taken something that has been written about so many times before and completely spun it on its head! Leona Deakin you now have a huge fan in me and I cannot wait to read more from you in the future!

This book left me with the biggest book hangover, , I cannot stop thinking about it and writing this review has made we want to read it all again! This is a story that is crying out for a film or tv series!!
