"Paradise is here but only if you can pay.. "

Synopsis

In cities across North America people are dying in seemingly impossible ways.

Is history's most outrageous serial killer on the loose?

When LAPD Detective Sarah Tracy is secretly instructed to recruit Craig McIntyre to help her investigate the deaths, she is unaware that his mere presence can transform people's darkest thoughts into action.

As Sarah and Craig hunt the murky underbelly of LA for the malevolent figure responsible for the bizarre deaths, they stumble upon the most expensive narcotic ever to hit the streets - a substance that promises something so unbelievable that users are willing to risk death to experience it.

With government black ops agency head Senator Tampoline always lurking in the shadows, Craig is used to being hunted. Now he is the hunter. And thousands could die if he fails to track down the killer.

My Review

I really enjoyed this read, my first by this author but this book is the 4th in the series but I found it worked well as a stand alone too.

We meet Craig McIntyne a private investigator who has a talent for been able to know peoples darkest thoughts and have them act on them, this character arc gave me Lucifer vibes, Its my favourite series at the moment and while Craig is not the devil, In many ways his power is so much more dangerous, I loved this use of a strange power with this character.

Unfortunately for Craig his "powers" have not gone unnoticed by those high up in government and under the orders of the Senator LAPD Detective Sarah Tracy will have to work with Craig McIntyre to investigate one the most bizarre and puzzling case's ever seen.

Strange deaths are happening, people all killed in the most impossible ways? cut in half but no blood? disappearances and bodies ending up in impossible places? as more bodies are discovered what are the LAPD dealing with? could this be the work of a serial killer?

Add to the mix a new drug "Paradise" the ultimate high, but only for the very rich and wealthy this drug costs 10 thousand dollars a dose! but how does it work? what is it? and is it linked to all these strange deaths?

This read throws you a thousand questions and leaves you reading at a pace to find out the answers, mystery, slightly paranormal elements added to the story and the political side was just scary and a real conspiracy theory angle which I really enjoyed!

All that been said and seeing the mix of story types I found it hard to categorise this book and I mean that in a brilliant way, its a thriller no doubt but the other elements and so many layers that are so well done and so clever that it feels like so much more than just a standard thriller!

I hope there is more to come from this series and these characters especially the building chemistry between Craig and Sarah, I cannot wait to read the next!
