"In this small town, nobody is innocent... "
Synopsis
It’s a small story. A small town with small lives that you would never have heard about if none of this had happened. Hinton Hollow. Population 5,120.
Little Henry Wallace was eight years old and one hundred miles from home before anyone talked to him. His mother placed him on a train with a label around his neck, asking for him to be kept safe for a week, kept away from Hinton Hollow. Because something was coming.
Narrated by Evil itself, Hinton Hollow Death Trip recounts five days in the history of this small rural town, when darkness paid a visit and infected its residents.
A visit that made them act in unnatural ways. Prodding at their insecurities. Nudging at their secrets and desires. Coaxing out the malevolence suppressed within them. Showing their true selves.
Making them cheat.
Making them steal.
Making them kill.
Detective Sergeant Pace had returned to his childhood home. To escape the things he had done in the city. To go back to something simple. But he was not alone. Evil had a plan.
My Review
This is not the first book I have read by Will Carver but it is the first that I have reviewed on this blog and its been a nightmare!!
A nightmare because this authors writing is so terrifyingly mind-blowing!, I just cannot put in to words the eminence originality and the skill of the story telling wrapped in this book
Just WOW, I was blown away!
Hinton Hollow Death Trip is the 3rd in the DS Pace series, set immediately after the best seller " Nothing Important Happened Today" now you do not have to have read the previous or the 1st in the series "Good Samaritans" but my honest opinion would be that to not read the series as a whole would be denying yourself the treat of reading a masterclass of storytelling!
So welcome to Hinton Hollow, small quaint town in southern England the place where everyone knows everyone, hintoners, Hollowers how ever they refer to themselves they have got on with there lives as normal until now.
Now Evil has arrived and is ready to tell his story. because what if Evil was just trying to do his job? his role? nothing is personal, and Evil even admits he likes to be lazy, he likes it when we are good but to behave as some do means he has a job to complete no matter what.
So this is the the story of his 5 days in Hilton Hollow and as evil slowly makes is mark around this town and on the lives of its residents, the story itself slowly seeps into your soul.
If you never thought you could understand Evil? or think of something Evil would say and almost agree with it!? well no I never did either and hell yes I did during this book!!! and this just shows why I loved this read so much.
I have not felt as challenged as a reader before, less so about what would I do? or how is this going to play out? but as a reader really having to take on the understanding of something like Evil in this concept and in the end understand its reasoning.
For all the uniqueness believe me this read still packs some fabulous twists and turns, I went into this read with very high expectations and they were all met and then some!
This is the series and this is the author to be watching! I am jumping at the bit and almost stalking @will_carver and @OrendaBooks on twitter to see what is coming next!
So there we are the hardest review I have ever had to write! not much on the story-line because even a little is almost too much!
I shall leave you with this, the first page in the book you are given a chance, a chance to turn back! The very chapter title is DON'T READ THIS, Evil gives you the opportunity to walk away and save yourself...
But you have read this review and I hope your ready to buy or order this book now because in Evils own words....
"Your still here.
I'm still here.
It says it all doesn't it?
you want to know.
you want to know about evil...."
