"A stunning debut novel set in a Yorkshire town, against a backdrop of the endlessly fascinating world of spiritualism and paranormal."
Synopsis
In the wake of his mother’s death, 16-year-old Ollie is thrust into the world of his uncle, Dominic Quinn, a renowned stage medium. Communing with the dead runs in Ollie’s family – or so he believes. But as he starts to hear voices in his head, he must confront the possibility that they are no more than a spiral into hereditary madness.
Haunted by the mysterious letter that plagued his mum’s final days, Ollie embarks on a quest for answers. With the help of one of his uncle’s mysterious books and the support of his classmate, Hannah, Ollie delves into the secrets surrounding his mother’s past.
But as he navigates the blurred line between reality and the paranormal, he must face a daunting question: will it make him famous like his uncle, or dead like his mother?
In this gripping young adult novel, Ollie discovers that sometimes, the most terrifying ghosts are the ones we carry inside.
My Review
Ghosts, hauntings in both tragedy and life, paranormal activity, mediumship and mystery this book was absolutely a bit of me and what I love!
This read kept me guessing and questioning everything! In it we meet Ollie after the tragic loss of his mother, Thrust into his uncles world as a medium Ollie has to confront his past and fears as he starts to hear the voices too! the family gift? or the curse of a heredity mental health issue?
The more Ollie spirals the more he battles to discover the truth not only of his mothers death but of his true self. A family or a big con? the greatest illusion or just more lies? and when he finally discovers the truth is he ready for the reality?
This debut was completely absorbing, dark and engaging, when dealing with the afterlife its so interesting to read the authors take on the paranormal and this author brings each and every element to life so vividly from the page from the characters to the chill down your spine as you think what if?
This ghost story certainly feels like the start of something even more and if I am right I cannot wait for even more of Ollies story!
