"What if winning means losing everything? "

Synopsis

It’s the stuff dreams are made of – a lottery win so big, it changes everything.

For fifteen years, Lexi and Jake have played the same six numbers with their friends, the Pearsons and the Heathcotes. Over dinner parties, fish & chip suppers and summer barbecues, they’ve discussed the important stuff – the kids, marriages, jobs and houses – and they’ve laughed off their disappointment when they failed to win anything more than a tenner.

But then, one Saturday night, the unthinkable happens. There’s a rift in the group. Someone doesn’t tell the truth. And soon after, six numbers come up which change everything forever.

Lexi and Jake have a ticket worth £18 million. And their friends are determined to claim a share of it. Sunday Times Number One bestseller Adele Parks returns with a riveting look at the dark side of wealth in this gripping take on friendship, money and betrayal, and good luck gone bad…

‘A gripping story of greed, lies and dark family secrets’ Lisa Jewell, No.1 bestselling author

My Review

As many will know I am a HUGE Adele Parks fan, this book is her Twenteth and marks Twenty books in Twenty years what an achivement!

More so as each and every book has been amazing you think nothing can beat what you have just read and yet the next surpasses it! and for me Just My Luck has done it again!

I doubt anyone anywhere has not at one point thought about winning the lottery, we have gone as far as dreaming about tropical climates, helping family and setting up a charity, dreamily spending the 70 odd million we just knew were we destined to win on the euro millions! (spoiler.. we are still awating a win!)

In this read we meet a family for which that dream has become real life, Lexi and Jake are holding a ticket worth just under 18 million! life changing, and while we notice early in that Lexi seems more cautious around money Jake and their children are living the high life, new cars, flash clothes what could go wrong?

But lexi and Jake played these same winning numbers every week for 15 years with 2 other couples, their closest friends, but the week before the win a rift occurs and as the friendships fall apart.

But the friends are detaimed to claim there share! as the secrets and lies start, we really start to see what money can do to people.

I know it cannot just be me that when a book arrives from a favorite author that you almost want to keep it for the best time, to savour it, this was me with this book and as soon as I settled down with it, I just could not stop read! I failed in my weekend to enjoy and demolished this book in 3 short hours!

This was a rollercoster of a read, From the jubilation of the lottery win to the moment the "friends" walk in to a press confrence to stake there claim I was captivated!

The story is told from 2 sides Lexi and her daughter Emily both lives affected by the win and we see the behaviour of people around them and how they deal with the changes not only to strangers in the town but to people they love and have known there whole lives.

I am a spolier free blog so it is difficult not to say too much but we see family drama, relationships change, an almost coming of age for Emily, loss ,grief and new beginings.

The charcters were compelling I found myself understanding Lexi and supporting her, the second story in the book with her friendship with Toma was really beautifully done.

But one of the best parts of this book are the twists one after another you are caught off guard and just as you process that and know "who to hate now" your thrown for a loop again! I say many times a book keeps me engaged from begining to end and WOW! this book does just that, even the final page left me reeling!

A thrilling and shocking domestic thriller, absolutley gripping, a book all should read who have ever dreamed of a lottery win, This is a story that is so shocking it leaves you thinking actually I am good as I am, keep your millions!

Author Bio

I've always dreamed of being a writer and when my first novel - Playing Away - was published the Evening Standard identified me as one of London's 'Twenty Faces to Watch', which was very nice of them!

I like to keep busy and I've published 19 (Just My Luck is number 20!) novels, and I'm thrilled to say that they've all hit the bestseller lists. I've sold over 3.5 million books in the UK alone and I've been translated into 26 different languages. I have written 17 contemporary novels and 2 historical ones, Spare Brides and If You Go Away, which are set during and after WW1. My latest novels, Lies Lies Lies, I Invited Her In, The Image of You and The Stranger in My Home are twisty, domestic noirs. I like to scrutinize our concepts of family, our theories on love, parenting and fidelity.

I passionately believe that reading is a basic right. I'm a proud Ambassador of The National Literacy Trust and a The Reading Agency, charities that are devoted to encouraging emerging adult readers and children who are becoming passionate about books.

During my career I've lived in Italy, Botswana and London. Now I live happily in Surrey with my husband, teenage son and cat.
