"Sometimes you just need to have a little faith in yourself... "

Synopsis

Everybody in the kingdom is supporting the brave knight Leo in his battle against his fearsome dragons.

They try lots of different things to help him defeat them but eventually Leo realises that the most important thing to do is to believe in himself.

This beautifully illustrated book with a poignant and uplifting rhyming story encourages children to persevere and find strength in the face of adversity, even when it seems that nothing is working.

Written by Gill White for her son Leo who suffers from Ohtahara Syndrome, an extremely rare form of epilepsy, and beautifully illustrated by Fife artist Gilli B, this story has been positively received by parents of children with complex needs, by care workers and medical staff and by parents of healthy young children who love the book simply as an adventure story.

All royalties from the sale of this book will go to CHAS (Children's Hospices across Scotland).

My Review

When the chance to take part in this tour came around I jumped at the chance.

In 2009 I was officially diagnosed with Epilepsy, i was have seizures left right and centre and the consensus was that I had always had Epilepsy after a head injury as a child just people thought I was daydreaming when actually I was having seizures.

By 2009, 3 weeks after having my second child and the grand-mal seizures started and have never stopped, I have a severe form of temporal lobe epilepsy which is not controlled by medication at all time, in the past 10 years my whole life has changed I was medically retired from the NHS and my husband is now my carer, but I am here and I keep going!

In 2011 my 3rd son was born and we noticed he started having seizures just before he was 18 months, he was diagnosed and on medication for over 4 years when so so very luckly he seemed to grow out of the condition he has not had a seizure in 3 years now and he is no longer on medication.

So where I can understand some of what Leo and his family face each and every day, it is nothing in comparison to how serve and debilitation leo's very rare condition is and I offer my up most respect to his family for how they deal with his health problems with such devotion.

For me this story is just beautiful, not only do we have the lovely Leo an his quest with the dragons but you see and feel the utter love that this family have for this brave brave little boy.

The beautiful and quite amazing illustrations bring Leo's story to life, along with the fun and funky text that was chosen which not only makes this read so fun it also adds emotion and thrills to the story.

This is a fantastic books for all children as the story is so magical any child who loves adventure, knights and dragons will not fail to love this book, but this book is especially good for any family who has a loved one with epilepsy, as it would be a useful and lovely way to help children understand the condition more.

Even more amazingly if you needed any other reason to buy this beautiful take then all royalties go to CHAS who provide amazing and life changing support to families with children with life-shortening conditions.
