"Seven Days To Save Her Son "
Synopsis
A race against time to save her child…
In seven days, Maggie’s son, Max, turns three. But she’s not planning a party or buying presents or updating his baby book.
She’s dreading it. Because in her world, third birthdays are the days on which the unthinkable happens… she loses her child.
For the last twelve years Maggie has been imprisoned in a basement.
Abducted aged fifteen, she gave birth to two sons before Max, and on their third birthdays her captor came and took them from her.
She cannot let it happen again. But she has no idea how to stop it.
And the clock is ticking…
My Review
I had been looking forward to this read since the books cover was posted on twitter in the late summer, I was already a huge fan of Alex Lake and I have enjoyed each and every one of her previous books.
I was thrilled when this one landed on netgalley and even more excited when I was approved to read and review just before my holiday.
As I settled in to my 9 1/2 flight to Florida I had the book ready to go via the kindle app, after lunch a settling the kids started reading just before we hit Canada and I was power reading by the time we were on approach to Orlando, as i could not imagine going through immigration and baggage collection without knowing the ending!
I devoured this whole book, I was gripped from the first page,We start a calendar and a countdown to a little boy’s birthday, a happy event, but not for Maggie as she knows that this birthday will be her son's last, unless she acts now.
Maggie was kidnapped 12 years ago kept by her kidnapper and subjected to horrors she is kept in a small room and she gave birth to 3 children, each were taken from her on there 3rd birthday, and the hearbreak of losing seb and leo and the assumption of the horror that happened to them means Maggie is ready to fight for her 3rd son Max, she is counting down and she will do anything to save him.
i just could not stop reading, i am a spoiler free blog but i will say that moments in this book utterly broke my heart and i had to take a breather from reading but i just had to keep going.
the huge emotions Maggie endures and the strength she finds was just awe inspiring, the disturbing manipulation of Maggie's family just made my skin crawl.
This book had it all, emotion, desperation, empowerment, disgust and shocking twists, this is the read for the winter of 2019
