My Review
I am an avid admirer of this author's previous works, particularly the Marnie Rome series. In this latest read, I anticipated nothing less than great twists and an enthralling narrative.
However, what I received was far beyond my expectations. I was completely captivated, mainly because this read felt slightly different from the author's usual style, but also due to the compelling characters of Grace and Daniel.
The last memory Grace has is being outside an empty house, ready to begin her work as a removals packer. She takes pride in caring for the owner's belongings, she enjoys the treasures she finds and cares for but not here not now.
she finds herself trapped in a cellar with no means of escape. She becomes a prisoner, his prisoner
held captive by Daniel, who believes she holds the key to solving the murder of a young girl named Elise that occurred a year prior. Daniel refuses to release Grace until she reveals her secrets.
Daniel is in control he wants the answers but truthfully he has no idea who he is dealing with and the secrets and anger Grace really hold.
This tale unfolds slowly, creeping under your skin with each passing moment. The setting of the cellar and the sense of entrapment create a chilling and tense atmosphere.
As we shift between Grace's and Daniel's perspectives, we are left questioning who we can truly trust. and as the story unfolds really can we trust anyone at all?
