"Some Boys I Knew is the new memoir by Clea Myers, the author of cult best-seller, Tweaking the Dream."
Synopsis
This memoir answers the question the author has often been asked: ‘How did you end up middle-aged, childless & on your own?’
In the midst of a sequence of traumatic events—recovering from crystal-meth addiction, facing infertility, battling chronic fatigue, surviving breast cancer, rebuilding a relationship with her narcissistic mother only for it to fall apart again before her mother’s suicide— Clea realises she has to take a break from men.
As Clea digs through the evidence, she exposes learned behaviours that keep her dependent. Denial is a powerful drug and the endorphin rush of apologies, promises and make-up sex fix things over and over… until they don’t.
Rich, powerful and authentic, Some Boys I Knew takes us on a raw, insightful journey to becoming the person Clea most needs: Herself.
My Review
This gripping memoir by Clea Myers is a raw and honest account of her tumultuous journey through life so far.
Clea delves into her complex childhood, and takes us through key moments in her life up to the present day.
She fearlessly opens up about her struggles with mental health issues, addictions and the complex intertwines of her relationships with men as she searches for the one.
Her quest for happiness takes her across the world but yet still leaves her lacking, is she really missing something? or someone? or just missing the key to accepting herself as she is?
I couldn't help but feel empathy for her as she navigates through life I found myself cheering Clea on yet at other time utter frustrated! this book lets you delve into your own thoughts and past as in the end we all seek stability, happiness and connection this was a power read a great reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the strength it takes to overcome adversity.
