My Review
This novel my first read from this author, is a fantasic combination of the best of crime fiction. Thilling with shocking and chilling elements This is a delightful, slow burn that then takes off at such a pase your reading through the pages at speed to find the answers.
This book is short in comparison to many but the author makes every word, each sentence jam packed and count, his writing is such that it does not need pages of dross like others do but just the key elements of the plot and these fantasic characters all keep you hooked.
We find ourselves in Wild Thyme, a rural town in Pennsylvania, which is beautfully discribed i was utterly taken with the wilderness and here we meet with Officer Henry Farrell.
Henry is a complex charater quite the loner at heart, and he is struggling after remarrying and returning to the area with emotinal mix of relationship and family drama it is all swirling in the perfect storm, and while this is going on Henry would rather be away alone fishing and hunting but he is in essence the only law enforcer in the area, which cannot be fun when the criminals are you friends and local neighbours.
When a body is discovered in the woods with no head, it is assumed bear attack and as the hunt the bear henry feels in his gut that this is not a bear attck but that this accident wa really murder, but why? and who?
We are taken along on this thrilling journey with henry, a race to find the mans identity and the mystery surrounding his death and just when Henry is getting close he becomes a suspect himself in another case, one where his own marrige and future will be at stake.
This book was a belter, just the engaging read I needed to be able to dip in and out of while homeschooling at this time. To everyone looking for a real classic crime thriller then look no further, this was my first taste of the authors work and it will not be my last!
