The Curse Of Ragmans Hollow - Rhys A Jones

Proud to be part of the Blog Tour for this amazing series!

Just a walk in the countryside. What could possibly go wrong?

Synopsis

Sam Jones's grandmother is training him to be one of the Cunning Folk, like her, and exams are looming. But Sam's mother has holiday plans and drags him off to a remote cottage in the middle of nowhere for some country air.

No mobile phone, nettle soup and long walks are the rule.

One such walk takes them to Ragman's Hollow, a place the locals avoid with good reason.

It's a place where people and animals go missing, never to be found.

That's just superstitious nonsense, according to Sam's mother. But there is no smoke without fire and Sam soon finds himself up against an old, very spiteful, and very tricky enemy.

He's going to need every ounce of his cunning to stop the Ragman. But can he do it alone?

My Review

This is such a lovely book my son aged 10 is such a prolific reader, so much so i gave him and his brother there own mini twist section on this blog!

He reads every day and i honestly cannot keep up with his appetite for books! For this reason I could not wait to read this book as my son, the one who has read everything from Harry Potter to David Walliams, from Diary of a wimpy kid to Tom Gates he declared this book THE BEST HE HAS EVER READ! (see his and his brothers review below!)

I found the whole story so engaging and the mix of fanciful and magic was amazing!

The story flowed really well and the mystery kept me guessing! i don't really want to say more to give away any spoilers!

The characters really make this story they are all so interesting and the relationships they have so real! i really enjoyed reading this story myself and i then read the book to my youngest son! he also loved it, so many bedtime memories so many questions full of fun and him begging for me to just read one more page!

The book is the third in what is known as the Merryweather series and we are all very very thankful to the author Rhys A Jones, as after my son had read this book we reached out and he was so lovely to send my son the other 2 books in the series and sign them!

My son was thrilled and devoured the books just as quick as the first! all three now have pride of place in his room and are officially his FAVOURITE BOOK SERIES IN THE WORLD!!

We have all as a family loved this series and i really believe this should be a children's classic series

Mini Twist Reviews

Sam is training to be a cunning folk, he is been trained by his grandma to do amazing things.

This book made me laugh lots sam's talents can make things think they are something else like a sink is a clock! it sounds weird but its really cool!

Sam really wanted to stay with his grandma but his mum talks him in to going on holiday with stories of Ragman's hollow and how the Ragman feeds on peoples happiness.

no one really believes these stories, but one day while exploring they find an open area, Sam's friend want to explore but Sam wants to listen to his mum who stay it could be the Ragman!! suddenly his friend are floating and silver wisps float in to a tree! his friends are OK but they are now not acting like themselves? its amazing!!

Sam's grandma comes to help them with the Ragman who is so scary! my favourite part was when Sam tricked the Ragman!

My mum says i cannot spoil any more of the story, but it is soooooo good!

It is a really amazing series and this book is my favourite of the whole series! thank you so much to Mr Jones for sending me the books, they are my favourite and i am now your biggest fan and cannot wait to read your other books and more you are writing now!

Author Bio

Rhys A Jones was born in 1955 and grew up in a mining village in South Wales with his nose in a book and his head in the clouds.

He managed to subdue his imagination long enough to carve out a career in medicine, writing whenever the chance arose.

The Merryweathers mysteries feature a boy and his more-than-meets-the-eye Granny Merryweather. The Curse of Wihtlea Barrows (previously the Dreables) and The Curse of Borage Doone have just been released as paperbacks with new covers and a new publisher (Wyrmwood). The third in the series entitled The Curse of Ragman's Hollow is now available at last.

Rhys is currently writing The Artefact Quintet featuring eleven-year-old Oz Chambers whose family inherits a ‘haunted’ house. His mother wants to leave, but Oz wants to unlock the house’s mysteries and uncovers a secret that will change his life forever.

Rhys also writes for adults as DC Farmer and Dylan Young.

He has three grownup children who have emerged remarkably unscathed into adulthood. When not writing, he practices medicine and lives in darkest West Wales with his understanding (very) wife and dog.

Oh, and the Rhys is pronounced Reece–as in the actor Rhys Ifans of Mr Lovegood (Harry Potter) and The Lizard (The Amazing Spiderman) fame. Or perhaps it’s easier if you just think of Reece Witherspoon, though she is a lady.

FROM WIKI: Rhys /ˈriːs/[1] is

a Welsh given name (usually male), famous in Welsh history a surname of Welsh origin that means “Dragon“, “fervour”, “passion”, “ultimate strength”, “king” or “zeal”

It was also my dad’s name! The name is also anglicised as Rice, Rees, Reese and Reece
