Synopsis

Welcome to the world of the forensic psychologist, where the people you meet are wildly unpredictable and often frightening.

The job: to delve into the psyche of convicted men and women to try to understand what lies behind their often brutal actions.

Follow in the footsteps of Kerry Daynes, one of the most sought-after forensic psychologists in the business and consultant on major police investigations.

Kerry's job has taken her to the cells of maximum-security prisons, police interview rooms, the wards of secure hospitals and the witness box of the court room.

Kerry's frank memoir gives an unforgettable insight into the personal and professional dangers in store for a female psychologist working with some of the most disturbing men and women.

My Review

To say I jumped at the chance to read this book is an understatement! why? because of my fascination with the human mind.

This is how my love of crime and thrillers begin, I love books that strongly develop the antagonists mental thought process, I enjoying reading and developing my own in-sights into the working of the mind.

From crime books and real life crimes and the people who commit them, to the the amazing stories and insights in to the world of the Dr's and psychologists that learn from, teach and treat these individuals every day, there is not much I have not read in the mainstream on the topic and quite honestly if i could have my time again this is the field i would have loved to go into.

I have heard of this author before and her work in this field, so I found this look into her life and the charting of her career utterly fascinating, I could not put this book down, I inhaled every detail and found the whole read enthralling, informative and in parts ultimately chilling.

The author has written the book in such a respectful way that each part, be it facts, shocking events, caring for patients or having to face down right scary individuals she hits exactly the right tone even including the perfect dose of dark humour. Nothing is there for the shock factor or the horror but to share the insights into these people's lives and reasoning be it criminals, killers, sex offenders or just individuals with overwhelming mental health issues.

Also speaking of her own struggles and her personal experiences of the justice system, we see how events can even affect those working within the system.

This is a must read for anyone working in this field or within the mental health services , for any reader with an interest in mental health and or true crime this is the book you need to ge grabbing hold of and delving in.

Written with compassion and amazing composure this book shows the effects of 2 UK systems the prison service and the mental health service at breaking point and yet it highlights some of wonderful people like the author who have dedicated their lives to this world.
