"At the school gates, there’s no such thing as yesterday’s news . . . "

Synopsis

When Liza’s little boy has an accident at the local health club, it’s all anyone can talk about.

Was nobody watching him?

Where was his mother?

Who’s to blame?

The rumours, the finger-pointing, the whispers – they’re everywhere. And Liza’s best friend, Sarah, desperately needs it to stop.

Because Sarah was there when it happened. It was all her fault.

And if she’s caught out on the lie, everything will fall apart.

‘Secrets, lies, suspicion and betrayal: THE FALLOUT has it all – and then some’

T M Logan, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Holiday

My Review

This is an interesting read now I like many might not find the whole yummy mummies lifestyle a thing they can realte too.

I am much more of a do my best for my boys but mainly while I lounge on my PJs working out how to support there fractions home work and failing! (Can you tell lockdown homeschooling is getting to me ha!)

So as this book started I initially found the "Mums" in honestly a bit of a nightmare, but they say never judge a book and in this case you can never judge characters.

Liza and Sarah mums under pressure, friends for years from the NCT class on the outside trying to portray this perfect life on the outside but as much of a disaster as the rest of us!

They reconnect one day with Ella the "mummy ideal " to them, especially Liza, Ella has supermodel beauty, and enjoys making everyone around her feel infirior in her world Ella takes centre stage.

But with a history left unspoken between them as they all relax in the local private health club a tradgic accident occurs. and the lies that are told in the aftermath slowly begin to crack.

This was very much a social drama, a real school gates affair, While I was appaled by some of their actions, I was just as much intrigued and had to know what was happening and what the secrets and history were!

The author had this wonderful writing style that made you dislike characters, like them suddenly, feel for them and then hate them all over again, all while your reading so fast to find out the answers!

This book also has some really emotional elements around friendship, divorce and seperation, postnatal depression and families. Te whole read just drips with Tension, the desperate nature of Liza really jumps out at you, your almost compelled to be dragged head first in to her anxeity and stress.

The story revolving around these 3 women and how they have insulated there lives feels all encompassing, you can see why the secrets and lies envelope them they can not see a way out of the bubble world they have created for themselves.

As all of the secrets and lies come to ahead, your left looking at the women and there husbands in a completly fresh light, by the end I was almost holding my breath and the final pages felt like I was coming up for air.

I love the author including snippits of WhatsApp group chats and interview transcripts and letters, which added context to the wide picture.

So in the end who is to blame for what happend? and how much can Friendships and marriges really be tested?, well this is a spoiler free blog so I suggest you get this read on your TBR (Or even enter my 1sy GIVEAWAY below!) and find out, welcome to your next obsessive read!
