Synopsis
If your life was on the line, how far would you go?
Surgeon Jacob Thorn isn’t worried when the police interview him over nurse Katy Leith’s disappearance.
She is a co-worker, nothing more. But when a leaked video of him and the missing woman arguing goes viral, the social media reaction is vicious.
When harrowing images of the kidnapped woman start to appear on his phone, along with a demand from her abductor that Jake confesses to a crime he has no recollection of committing, he is forced to act or face terrifying consequences.
He needs to delve into the past for answers. But time is running out for Katy.
Will he admit to his failings and lose everything, or plead ignorance and let an innocent girl die?
My Review
This review was not posted on the intended date due to technical issues on my end, For this I would just like to apologise to the Author, the Publisher and the Tour Organiser and thank them all for their understanding.
I could not wait to get stuck in to another of Dylans Young's book I am a huge fan of his work just as my son is a huge fan of his children's books!
The Operation is his latest psychological thriller and for me the best yet!
Surgeon Doctor Jacob Thorn is a renowned surgeon and when nurse Katy Leith vanishes without a trace the community is shocked
Thorm becomes a person of interest though from outset he remains open to the police and states he was in no way involved.
When a video surfaces online of Thorn and Katy having an argument. we see the world of social media ignite they turn in the judge and jury adding fuel to the fire until this case and the take down of Thorn becomes viral.
Behind this cloud of vitriol we uncover that Thorn is been blackmailed by the very people that put the video out there about a previous surgery that went wrong, mob mentality insures and Thorns family and friend are victims.
What went wrong during that surgery? what happened to Katy, can we really accept the truth?
For me this story just crawled right under my skin, as an retired theatre nurse I found the settings so relate-able and even the characterisation was just spot on, and while I did not really like Thorn, I felt he represented a key arrogance that many a surgeon I have met had! All the medical cases and surgeries were fascinating and very well explained.
Brilliant twists and an alarming look at the dark side of social media, I cannot wait for more form this author.
Author Bio
Dylan Young grew up in a mining village in South Wales before boarding a train for London.
A 35-year career in the NHS followed, the last 27 as a consultant ophthalmologist.
Three dark psychological thrillers for Random House emerged in the late nineties and over the last decade, under different pseudonyms, he’s written children’s books and an adult contemporary fantasy series.
But retiring from the NHS has allowed Dylan to spend (even) more time in his writing office — a shed in the garden.
