"You let them back in. You shouldn't have... "
Synopsis
You let them back in. You shouldn't have...
Young couple Charlotte and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they got on an old house in a beautiful yet remote neighbourhood nestled deep in the mountains.
One day, there’s a knock at the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.
As soon as the family enters their home, strange things start to happen, and Eve wants nothing more than for them to leave and never come back. But they can’t – or won’t – take the hint that they are no longer welcome.
Then Charlie suddenly vanishes, and Eve begins to lose her grip on reality. She’s convinced there’s something terribly wrong with the house and its past inhabitants… or is it all in her head?
The Turn of the Key meets Parasite in this eerily haunting debut and Reddit hit—soon to be a Netflix original movie starring Blake Lively — about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit.
My Review
Chilling, creepy and absolute obsessive read this book gripped me from the start and the goosebumps have yet to leave, 5 stars all the way!
In this read we meet Eve and her partner Charlie, who have purchased an old home in a stunning yet secluded neighborhood with the intention of renovating and flipping it.
One day, a man arrives at their door claiming to have lived in the house in the past and asks if he can show his family around while they are in the area. Reluctantly Eve agrees, but little does she know that this decision will lead to a series of strange and unsettling events.
From the moment the family enters the house, bizarre occurrences begin to unfold. Their daughter goes missing, mysterious figures appear in the basement and attic, and Eve's perception of reality starts to blur. As the family refuses to leave and Charlie goes missing, Eve is left questioning everything - the family, the house, and even herself.
This book had me on edge from the very beginning, sending shivers down my spine that never seemed to fade. The eerie and chilling atmosphere created by the author, who originally shared this story on Reddit (if you're not already a part of the creepy pasta Reddit community, you're missing out!), kept me captivated throughout.
I found myself breathless at times, needing to take breaks to calm my nerves as the tension and anxiety in the story became almost tangible. This is a book that demands to be devoured in one sitting, as the questions and suspense keep you hooked until the very end.
Many reviews describe this book as a mind f*ck, and I couldn't agree more! I am eagerly anticipating the Netflix adaptation to see the story come to life, as this book has left me with the most intense book hangover I've ever experienced. I've already recommended it to all my fellow bookish friends, and I urge you to pick up a copy now - this is undoubtedly one of my favourite reads of the year!
