Blog Tour stop for this engaging, gritty and thriller of a read.
"Sometimes you find the truth, Sometimes he truth finds you.. "
Synopsis
Britain: a few years from now. A new populist political party has won the recent general election.
Duncan Jones, freelance political journalist and blogger, loses his weekly column at a national newspaper and turns to investigative reporting.
The chance remark of a friend leads him to suspect that the Russians are directing the new British government's policies and decisions.
As he visits Moscow and Ukraine to discover more, scandal follows intrigue, dark forces attempt to silence him by whatever means possible and he turns to an unlikely ally for help.
A Friend in Deed is a fast-paced psychological thriller set in an all-too-believable near future. It is also the story of how one man confronts the traumas in his past and works out how to resolve them.
My Review
This Review rounds off a thrilling 3 month Blog Tour for the works of G. D Harper, each month I have been treated to the most gritty, engaging and fast paced thrillers that if at all possible got even better and better as each book went along!
links to my other reviews below:-
A friend In Deed is set in the not too distant future where political events if at can believed are even in more of a mess than we are right now.
Duncan a freelance investigative journalist. A choice he took over 20 years ago led to an innocent man going to jail, he lost his credibility and the stability of his old newspaper journalist role.
Today doing everything he can to stay afloat he stumbles across insider knowledge about a possible connection between the Russians and the British government, along with the new "act now" party that are running the government and parliament at the moment.
Before long he is over his head and in even more danger that he even realises. With the events in motion, the consequences will have more effect than even Duncan realises and it might threaten his whole life.
Political thrillers are not normally my cup of tea, more Mr Twist my husband's choice and he is currently knee deep in this book too! but after reading the other works by the author I just knew I would really enjoy this book.
I enjoyed having Duncan as the main character in this book, he does appear "Loves Long Road" but in no way do you need to have read that book first this is the perfect standalone read.
The writing really makes the setting and characters fleshed out and real, and the events make the read such a page turner that your suddenly 3/4 of the way through and desperate to reach the conclusion and know what happens.
This is fantastic mix of politic's and conspiracy, gripping and absorbing with twist and turns galore.
I will miss not having the authors book to look forward to next month, but I will wait with excitement for his next book release!
Author Bio
I was placed third in the 2015 Lightship Prize for first-time authors, won a 2016 Wishing Shelf Award Red Ribbon, been shortlisted at the UK Festival of Writing for Best First Chapter, longlisted in the 2017 UK Novel Writing Competition.
In 2017, I was one of twelve authors selected for Authors in the Spotlight at the Bloody Scotland book festival in Stirling, showcasing who they considered to be the best emerging talent in crime fiction, and was the only self-published author to be chosen. I have spoken at numerous other book events, including Blackwells' Writers at the Fringe at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; a stand-alone slot at the Byres Road Book Festival in Glasgow, and the Aye Write! Book Festival, also in Glasgow.
I worked in Russia and Ukraine for ten years, which gave me the ideas for the plot and setting that I used in A Friend in Deed.
